    rear wheel "tabs"

    just got done changing old yellow to studded snow tires, and before doing a test drive, hear the car scrapping on something. come to find out the metal tabs on the rear are scraping on the inside of the rear wheels.
    my question, what are those tabs used for? all my Festiva's needed to have those tabs bent out of the way i will try to get a picture of it today when i get home....

    Are you talking about the rear tow hooks?

      I believe he's referring to the body joint at the point that the bumper and the fender meet at the back of the wheel well on the rear of the car. On my silver one with FMS springs, my tires hit that spot on a large bump.

        I think he neans the tabs that stick out from behind the backing plates.

                I think I know what you are talking about. If so, I hammered those over flat because they were hitting my tires when I changed to 14's.

                  ya! changed the original rims for different i believe festiva rims, 12 inchers with studded snow tires and they started making srapping sounds, my 13 inch Konig rims did not make those srapping sounds

                    good question. my best guess is they are for scraping off or prohibit the buildup of ice or snow getting packed around the drum?
