  • Parked car for 5 days and now it has a ticking sound

I parked my Festy for 5 days until my new struts came and when I started it up it now has a noticeable ticking sound. It sounds like a lifter to me but I don't understand why it would suddenly go bad when I haven't been driving it. The temp did drop below freezing for 2 days. Well maintained BP with around 85k and recent oil change. How do you check if one has gone bad?

That's normal. After these engines sit they loose oil from the lifters. Sometimes it takes a good 5 min ride down the road to get it to go away.

Agreed, it didnt "go bad", oil just drained from the hydraulic lifter. Has happened in every hydraulic lifter vehicle I have owned.

What about using a heavier oil? I used 75/90w and the engine loved it.

Did it in my b3.. Was quite the smooth sounding engine.

LoL.. No.. My mate had a MOPAR and said change the oil over asap.. I decided against it as there wasn't any issues from it and tbh, it sounded a lot better running that than 10/40w.. There was no noticeable power loss either.

Go to 10-30 if its freezing.... and if it is too cold, then switch to 5-30 while the cold last. Hope all you guys in US & Canada are OK, from what you can see on the news, things don't look to good!

My god, you're lucky these pumps are directly over the crank, you'd make pump drive shafts look like twizzlers in older v8s.....

                Regardless, that poor starter....

Wait what? no, dont tell people to run 75w90 in their engine! That is a gear oil viscosity and those are not designed for engine lubrication! It isnt just thicker, the additive package is different, shear properties, I could go on and on... its for cushioning gears, not for lubricating an internal combustion engine. A lifter tick upon startup after sitting for 5 days is COMPLETELY NORMAL.

No moz I won't do that.. It was a service and I had no moolah for oil... So it was the only option I had at the time.
