  • EGT High loping idle when cold

Lots of Festiva, Aspire things to fix this winter but the thing that is driving me nuts is when the ambient air is cold my
92 Escort GT idles at 2100-2300. No vacuum leaks.
    Any ideas?

So I am assuming it does not drop down to a regular idle? by loping, do you mean it cycles up and down at a regular rate?

Most of the mazda engines I have seen this happen with is due to a IAC that is malfunctioning.

Yep, my '95 EGT is doing it too... driving me crazy, just haven't had time to make it to a junkyard to get another IAC. I probably have a spare one on one of my extra intakes, but its to cold to go searching.
          No festiva for me ATM...

Just unplug your iac and turn your base idle up a hair.
until it worms up enough to clean it so it stops sticking open.
that the way my car is with the b6d and it always starts great.
even when its - 30 lol

Thanks for the input! Glad I have two spare BP's.
I was thinking it had something to do with temperature sensors, I think there is three of them, one for the gauge, one for the computer and one just to confuse me.
