  • 88 Car by Dist./Coil Wiring Questions

    Hey!!

I have an 88 Festiva with the Weber conversion. I had an engine fire that got a few wires, hoses, etc.

So with that being said, I have a question. There are three wires that come from the Distributor. I know that the greenish one is grounded, the black/yellow wire goes to the + terminal of the coil , and the last wire goes to the - post of the coil. I also know that there are two wires that go to the coil from the firewall that provides power.

I have all of this hooked up, I know the coil is getting power, but I'm not getting any spark....

I have two distributors with good ICMs. Tried them both.

    What am I missing here???

On an 88, power goes through the MAIN fuse link through the ignition switch in RUN position and then to the ignition coil (black/white) positive terminal. Yellow/green goes from the negative terminal to the tachometer. You do not need to hook up the green/yellow wire for the ECA. The black wire goes from the positive terminal to the condenser. The blue wire goes from the ignition module in the distributor to the negative terminal of the coil. The black/white wire goes from the ignition module in the distributor to the positive terminal of the coil. The blue/orange wire goes from the ignition module in the distributor to the barometric pressure switch and ECA (this is not necessary any more). The ECA can be disconnected and removed.

Check the point where the wires go into the distributor. The sharp bend in the wires at this point sometimes breaks the insulation on the wires and they can short out against the distributor housing, especially if you had a fire and "baked" the wires a little.
        You gonna race that thing?
