  • Help!, nut-weld on body broke on rear crossmember bolt!!!!

Hi guys, I pulled the b3/auto and got the b6 with 5-speed in my festiva, but one problem, while putting the Rear crossmember bolt in the nut broke its weld holding it!,

Can this be accessed under the carpet to reweld it or will i have to cut a hole for access?

Thanks for your help!, im almost there, just need to mount the pedals, clutch cable, splice harness and VRRROOOOM!

Usually when a welded nut breaks loose you can get enough access to it through a nearby hole to keep it in place with either a box end wrench or a pry bar to get it apart and back together again. if not you can always cut an access hole, weld the nut back in place then weld back the piece you cut out. If that doesn't help PM me and I will see what I can do as far as directions for you

Maybe use a hole saw and make an access hole then determine the solution. If it's not rusted then just weld the nut down. If it's rusted then you may have more problems.

update! (again the one that broke was the back, inner nut.)

              Easy fix!!!!,,
#1 put the car on the lift, get a long punch, put it thru the hole and pop it right thru the floor, this will give you a guide on where to cut.

#2 pull the carpet back, its hard to get it under the pedals, i had to unbolt the gas pedal and push it out of the way.

#3 Whizz wheel, cut bottom, left and right sides, pry up the door you made, and underneath is a night little pocket, now you could weld another bolt in, but its very tight, you have all that insulation crap, all that tar stuff, etc..

We just put a nice big bolt in thru the bottom. and have your buddy put a nut on and hold it with a wrench.

tighten everything up, bang the little door you made down, and silicone to seal.. All fixed, no lose of strength in the unibody becuase the floor board makes its slop upward in this spot, the "frame" is under it where your making an access door too. this is stronger then ever too with the bigger bolt.
