Ford festiva gas system failing

i just change the car tank on my ford festiva 1988 but don't remember which vacuum hose to go on the pipes on the tank... the gas filter also gets empty often and cause the car to shut off because no gas is reaching the engine

First, change the short rubber hose in between your fuel tank line and your fuel filter. See if the problem disappears. It gets soft with age and collapses when the fuel pump is sucking.

If not, then disconnect the rubber fuel line at the fuel tank and at the fuel filter in the front. Blow the lines out with compressed air to make sure they are clear.

Sorry, I can't help you with the vacuum lines. I threw mine out and just installed a vented gas cap. I couldn't figure out how to reattach the vacuum lines either.
Even though it says to open slowly on my sexy red gas cap, I opened it up, removed the block off plate and then reassembled it. It only took about five minutes.
