  • Any help or suggestions will be appreciated...

So here is whats happening. I did do a search for help before asking, just so ya know. My 93 5 speed festiva is bucking and stuttering like its starving for gas, mainly in 4th and 5th gear but does do it some in the lower gears. Its horrible in 5th, I can floor it and the car does nothing, I have to feather the gas pedal slowly to help it gather momentum and get up to speed. If I try and give it too much gas it starts jerkin and hesitating.....Ok

So here is what I have done so far.... Started off putting a can of sea foam in the gas tank hoping it was a plugged up injector (which it still may be). Have only ran through one tank of gas with it, should I buy another can and try again? I changed my fuel filter and put in a different fuel pump that I have from another festiva. I changed plugs, wires and distributor cap and rotor. Just did that today a few minutes ago. Not any better, as a matter of fact it seemed a little worse in my test drive. My guess is bad fuel injectors? I just don't know at this point. Please, any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Bad fuel? Another member had the same problem you are describing. Use search.

Check your intake tube from the VAF to TB. I would bet you have a tear in it.

Check your intake tube. Look for cracks in it. The VAF is your air flow meter, TB is throttle body.

VAF-Vane Air Flow sensor(Its the box looking thing right after your air filter with a 7pin connecter going to it.
TB-Throttle Body(Right were your intake pipe connects to the intake manifold, also there the throttle cable connected to it

when i had this problem it ended up being the fuel pump. also when you use the search feature it might help to enclose your word in quotations

I did not think of hesitation for some reason...I searched "fuel starved".."bucking, stuttering". I guess hesitation would of described it better. Bad search skills I guess.

No cracks found. I checked it over real good. Darn, I was hoping for that to be it too.

So I have been reading under "hesitation" search. There is a thread where a person has the same problem I'm having and it goes on for 5 pages ending with no solution. AHHH. Festyboy suggested the coil to that person maybe thats the next thing I'll try. Someone else suggested timing. What you folks think?
