  • Rear hatch lock mechanism diagram or pic needed

    Festiva 1993-- 209522 original miles
I was rear ended :bc: but managed to get my rear pulled back into shape...I wish it was that easy ha ha...BUT now the key will not lock/unlock the hatch. I am able to use the lever on the inside to open/lock the hatch. When driving around there is a lot of rattling, even more than usual, coming from the hatch area. Could someone post a pic or diagram of intact working lock mechanism please ?? Shop manuals no help.

The rod that extends over to the lock cylinder probably came off it's connector. It might be able to easily be put back on.

Here are where the two rods connect that come off the latch.

This is the one that goes up to the handle

And here is the one in question that might not be connected anymore. This rod goes horizontal down the back of the hatch over toward the lock cylinder.

Thanks for all the help, especially the actual pics of the locking mechanism ty1...we figured out the problem...the rod attachment 'loop' was missing from the locking mechanism, broken off and we found it loose in the hatch. ...so a trip to our local junk yards is in order for a new mechanism.
Meanwhile I will do the reach over the backseat flip, to open the hatch if needed.
