  • Camshaft Help

So i have been having trouble with my 89 festiva and i finally figured out that the person that timed it last over tightened the camshaft bolt and stretched the threads so it cracked after driving it and then it sheared the pin holding the camshaft gear in the correct timing so i got another bolt and tightened it down so it wouldnt move and now it is fowling my 2 and 3 plugs and it is sputtering and backfiring and i cant figure out why. the camshaft gear is in the correct place and it is timed, so does any one have any ideas?

    Is the pin still sheared?

Do you have oil on the plugs or are they flooded with fuel?

Well free is good, and it is staying in time.

If you 100% that its in time my next step would be look to ignition.
Wires and plugs. May be some others will chime in here and give some more things to check.

Verify you are you getting spark to the plugs. If not, I would suspect the ignition coil.

Well... we know you have fuel and spark....that leaves compression and timing. Was the car running well before the cam pin sheared?
