Correct Engine running temp

Hi

I just replaced the thermostat because the temp gauge would hardly show and temp and heater was cool.

But now temp still only reaches barely above cold ever and never goes to the center.


Should it go to the middle?
Is the temp sensor shot?

Maybe. It's cheap and easy to change.

I have that problem and I'm pretty sure it's because my radiator leaks and doesn't let the cooling system pressurize like it's supposed to. The reason I think that is because my minivan radiator just started leaking a small spray from the middle and it's doing the same thing where the temp gauge only goes up a quarter inch or so past the C mark.

Of course I've replaced the thermostats in both vehicles and I changed both temp sending units (one is actually just the fan on/off switch) on the festy by the thermostat.

If that's the case, then when you carefully remove the rad cap it should be under pressure. If it's not have the garage check the rad cap with their pressure tester.
If the rad cap passes, then start looking for another source of coolant pressure loss. Good luck.

It is entirely possible that your connection to the temp sensor for your gauge is corroded.
I have cleaned those connections which helped but in some cases the copper wire and connector were so badly corroded I cleaned the wire and soldered it directly to the temp sensor.
This worked really well.

BTW, you might want to add your location to your profile so we have some idea of the temps you car is likely to be seeing.
Not to mention that some might be close enough to lend a hand.
