  • Cabin Electrical Issues

Hey everyone. I think I have a loose wire or corroded ground issue that I could use some help with. I've already shined up the electrical connections under the hood, checked the charging ability of the alternator, and tightened up the belt to no avail. When I first start my car and it is cold, I have zero power to the blower fan and the wipers. Eventually, they do power up... but the speed of both systems is quite lacklustre to say the least. In my other Festiva, the wipers move significantly faster and the fan blows significantly more air. Wondering where I should start here because it's quite a frustration in the winter time having no wipers or heater!

Start with the grounds under the dash.
The wiper motor grounds to the body through the wiper/washer switch to a large eye ground near where the antenna enters under the dash. The blower motor is grounded through the blower motor switch to the same ground. Clean G200.
Kia saved a few cents by using steel terminals in the interior ground gangs. I solved the problem by reterminating with brass terminals, using a .250" MPV ground gang. Good luck.

I will do my best to find the elusive and mysterious G200. Unfortunately, my under-dash became a pretty busy place with all of the added accessories and the B6T swap.

I believe G201 is a gang of 5 or 6 grounds together. G200 is a redundant large ring terminal coming off of it, to ensure ground. Lust look for a bunch of black wires all coming together. It is screwed to the drivers side wall under the dash. Everyone should clean all of their grounds, outside and inside their vehicle at least once every twenty years.

I wish my factory service manual had a better layout for locating all of the grounds in the cabin. I ought to commission you to do a write-up on their whereabouts, BK!

I just looked it up in the EVTM (Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual).
I highly recommend purchasing one for your model year. Best ten bucks you will ever spend on your car. There are pictures where every ground, splice and connector is located, along with detailed circuit diagrams.
