  • Three fuses next to battery....help...

Forgive me if this isn't the place to post this, So i just replaced my engine with yet another 88' in my 93' festy L, which i have done once before, and i checked all grounds, which are good and tight, and i keep blowing the middle main fuse next to the battery.
every time i try to hook battery up it blows the fuse, I am on my last spare and the manual isn't helping much. on the last try i put the spare in and hooked up battery, didnt blow the fuse but it sounded like the acid in battery was (bubbling)? mind you battery was unhooked the moment i heard the sound. im just at a stand still, not knowing what to do now. i've tried P.O.E (process of elimination) and still come out dumb-founded. please... any help would be greatly appreciated as i am trying to keep my job and the most important thing in my life alive. thank you all

I'm sure i have no naked wires, now the original alternator, the bolt where you tighten the ground sheared off so i had to use the 88' alternator and my wiring system doesnt support the hook ups, so i had to splice the wires from the donor car to my alt hook up. but even with it not spliced it blows the fuse. the 2 grounds that ground to the transmission there are supposed to be two wires going to that right? thats the only ground i can think of that wouldnt be right. also, on the starter the rubber booty that covers the hook up fell off and cant find it. would that be a cause?

unhook the alternator wires and the starter wires for troubleshooting's sake. Then retry the battery. If it still blows fuses then you know it is not the items you think it might be.

tried it with both unhooked and didnt blow a fuse then connected the starter and tried still no blown fuse so it looks like i need a new alternator that fits my wiring system., thank you guys so much for the help, one more quick question, is it possible to fix/repair the alt with the sheared bolt? i dont think so but have to ask as im needing to be cheap about this as i spent all the cash i have for the engine, gaskets, oil and other fluids..
Again thank you all so much, i feel like an idiot for thinking that i could use the older alt.

Hey don't beat yourself up, a bad alt is a bad alt. Possibly you wired the connector wrong, so it is not the alt. Possibly the alt has a short. Several shops in our town will run a bench test on the alt at no charge. Get it tested, I am sure there is someone near you with a similar service. If it tests OK take another look at your wiring. If it is bad it had nothing to do with your choosing another design, it is just a bad alt.
