  • Post your preference for high mileage oil here

Just wondering what brands everyone uses in their high mileage festys. Do you like conventional, synthetic, high mileage, what do you swear by, What would you avoid? Like for me mine has 226,000 miles and I'm a new owner and have yet to change oil. I would love to see everyone's recommendations and I'm sure others may change brands or grades and benefit as well!

If you are generous enough to contribute, please at least state your mileage, engine specs, and general locations for climate considerations.

I use 10W30 in mine and have for 24 yrs. No high mileage just regular oil. (338963 miles)
My new motor which is being built for a gas mileage test, will have synthetic in it.

My B3 has great compression, only smokes a tiny bit on cold starts (valve stem seals likely), and isn't too nasty under the valve cover, so I just opt for cheap conventional 5W30. It's around 315,000KM or just over 200,000 miles.

I just use good old conventional 5w-30, used to run 10w-30, but that gave me lots of lifter clatter on cold starts.

I don't even use name brand conventional, I use Walmart Supertech with Purlolator PureOne filter. Used to do oil changes every 3k miles, but I think that is a bit excessive. Now I do them every 5k miles.

Valvoline MaxLife 10W-30 with Purolator filter and a shot of MMO. I bought "Fred" with virtually no compression on cyinders 3&4 and using 1 qt oil every 200miles. Soaked the rings for a week and rebuilt the head. Runs like a new car now and uses no oil.

I use Valvoline Maxlife 10w-30 or 5w-30. I use Fram or any filter that does not have a paper filter. My Festy has 195,000 miles. It used to smoke some (valve seals) when I first purchased Shadow, but since I have used Maxlife and drive it every day, no smoke anymore.
I have used Maxlife on my Ford Ranger for years and now The Ranger is pushing to 300,000 miles and still going strong.

Just plain oil. Mobil 5w-20, though I think I'll start with something thicker once I get the HYD rockers out of Blue. Filthy critters.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

                          Cheapest quality out there

Synthetic is over rated for everyday driving.

Oil itself is a filter, it needs to be changed.

Rotella, $12 5qt jug everyday from Meijer.

2 asoires, both over 300k mile.

15w40 that goes through anything not paper. Even in the aspire 1.3 recently turned crank and new bearings and pump.

Used to use Castro magnatec 10-40, but changed it to valvoline 10-30, he seems to like it better.. change it every 3k km with bosch filter...
MMO once in while but in the gas tank+ cyclo max 44. I have very crappy gas here..... even if it is super 95
Mine had 129k when i got it and at 135k had it first overhaul.

0w20 In winter & 5w30 in summer. Mobil synthetic in both my 1.3L DD's because they dont burn or leak. If its an oil burner, whatever is cheap at wally world. I change my oil when it looks dirty not by how many miles I put on it. Usually 5-8K
