  • Downpipe Compatibility

I am just wondering what downpipes will fit a 91' 5-speed?

Basically I have been needing to get a new downpipe, because some jerk-off PO had the flange cut off and had a universal catalytic convertor welded on, and now I have no way to attach the new intermediate pipe.

Would a downpipe from a carb'd B3 work? Would a Automatic downpipe fit? Or do I need to have one from a 90's 5-speed?

I've found a manual EFI downpipe will work with an auto (forget if it was welded or not - sorry), Aspire downpipe will work (but will need welded), unsure about carb'd. They look pretty dang similar.

No I don't want any welding.

I was just asking, because I think muleskinner may have pulled one from a carb car, and I don't know if that will work or not because I think there might be extra connectors for EGR and crap because rockauto lists downpipes for 91', but not 88'.

Carb pipe can be used on 5speed EFI, just need to make a block off plate for the EGR. Pretty simple, just a flat piece of metal with two holes drilled so that it bolts over the hole. No welding needed.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I don't think the crossmember difference would make a diff in the down pipe between auto and manual.

*edit* Rock Auto shows two dif parts for auto and manual but the pics look identical or near enough. Someone who knows more will be able to say yes or no for sure.

The angles are a little off, flange doesn't quite sit right on the cat end because the engine is actually situated a tad bit different in the bay due to differences in the crossmember/mounts. It can be made to work, but it doesn't truly fit.
