    Gas tank sealant?

    Just discovered that Matthew has a slight leak (fumes only) at the seam in the rear of the tank, when it is more than 1/2 full. Is there any gasoline-proof spray sealant that can be applied to fix it, at least temporarily? If not, I will want to buy a good used (from a rust-free car) gas tank.

    Edit: Did some searching and found some sealant kits. None were spray on, all require removing the tank. Which of these kits is best? KBS seemed like a good bet. http://www.kbs-coatings.com/auto-fuel-tank-sealer-kit.html

    Even if you do find a solution to patch it, you should be replacing it. Replacing with a used tanks is your best bet and it shouldn't be too expensive. A cracked tank (even once "repaired") is an un-needed risk, especially if you were to ever have a collision.

      Danny bought a brand new tank for Mouse (his white car that had been sitting a long time before he got it). I don't think it was terribly expensive.
      No festiva for me ATM...

        At Rock Auto they went from $118 - 164 IIRC. It would be nice to find a good used tank for say ~$50. Probably gonna be JYing this week.....

          Make sure to clean that tank out real good. Old dirt, sludge, etc, would be a headache if it clogged your lines or even your filter.

              ^ Ebay FTW!

              Tom, they sell epoxy tank repair at the McParts stores. It is a 2 part putty epoxy. It will work temporarily, if you need it. I have used it before and it does work.

                  If you get a new and shiney tank, consider rolling on some bedliner to keep it from rusting.

                      I had an old truck that develop a leaky tank and (this is no lie) I knew a guy that could weld a broken heart he came over and welded it up. He left it on the car and used the gas that was leaking out and more or less brased it. I wouldn't try it I would just buy new tank but figure I share that.
