Cooling fan stuck on, any ideas?

Hi guys, the b6 and 5-speed swap are in my festiva, but my fan is stuck on with the key, the relay seems to be good, i can jump it with a wire and it clicks...

could it be the temp switch? any way to test it?

also are the backup lights hooked up to this circuit? becuase mine are not hooked up. would this even matter?

Jeeze the relays and temp switch is expensive!!!

Pull the wire off the thermal switch (the one on the thermostat housing) and ground it. If that makes the fan turn off, then the problem is that switch. (The Haynes manual has this backward - the switch should be closed when cold)

My thermal switch is closed when hot. Pull the plug off and the fan turns on.

It sounds like either that switch is bad, the wire is cut, or it's just not plugged in. The switches seem to have a tendancy to fail open(fan off), as that happened on both of my cars. I just pulled the switch from every junkyard festiva I found and found some good ones.
