I have the oil pump housing loose and can get screwdrivers behind each side to wiggle it back and forth but won't slide completely out. I'm thinking the oil pan has to be dropped before it'll slide out but wanted to see if I had to for sure before I went through the extra work. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

I called oreillys about getting a new oil pump seal for that housing and they said nothing came up. I guess I'll just use that high temp gasket maker for the oil pump housing and the oil pan....is this a normal practice or should there be a seal in there? I really hope this is where the oil leak is coming from, it's a pretty bad one.

Usually its just the front main seal that leaks. There is a gasket for the oil pump housing, and if you've cracked the seal on the pump-to-block by removing the oil pump bolts you pretty much need to follow through and put a new gasket behind there. I am 99% sure the oil pump gasket comes with a front main seal, ive done 3 front mains in the last month but im having a brain fart right now. I never bother with the oil pump gasket it just gets pitched.. Probably got a spare laying around if you think you need it.
It never hurts to use permatex copper spray on the oil pump and water pump gaskets, available at any autozone or advance. $10 worth of insurance to make sure it doesn't leak after all the hard work lol..
As far as oil PAN gaskets, theres two rubber half moon shaped pieces, and two small tubes of rtv in the "gasket kit" they sell you. So you can do the math and figure out if you want to reuse the two pieces that you pulled off when you dropped the pan, slathered in rtv of course, or if you want to buy two new ones.
Crankshaft seal set, fel pro brand has everything you need except rtv and/or the oil pan stuff if you want new.

When they say 'needs to be used with xxxxxx' the number is reference to a new oil pan gasket. If your creative and careful with a tiny drill bit and a screw you can replace front and rear mains without needing a new oil pan gasket.
Where you located?
Is the engine still in the car?

I'm in Missouri and yes the engine is still in the car. I just cut a piece of the wheel well out for easier access so maybe I'll look into replacing the front main while I'm in there too and see if that gasket comes with it. I do remember the parts place said all he saw on the comp was a front and rear main set, so that's probably what was in there. I can't thank you enough for your advice.

Well it's all back together, the moment of truth will be tomorrow after the rtv cures completely and I fire it up and see. Was able to get the oil pump gasket in a crankshaft seal set. Hopefully I don't need the water pump gaskets that came with it and I had already done the crankshaft seal which I'm guessing is also considered the front main seal. I'll keep ya posted....
