  • Dang Piston...

Hey guys... So a couple weeks ago I found a Festiva for sale one the Craigslist and went ahead and bought her. She had a coolant leak coming from the little rubber hose on the front of the motor and needed the basic tune up parts and what I thought was a possible head gasket. Well after I got all the little parts fixed there was still a little coolant leaking between the head and block so I go ahead and start to tear her down and was not happy about what I found.

So to put it short I don't really have the funds, or a patient enough of a wife, to completely rebuild her and quite frankly don't think it would be worth it.

What do you guys think? Let it sit for a while and eventually do a swap? Just go ahead and sell her as is? Or do y'all think it would be worth rebuilding her?

I was hoping to get about a year out of her while slowly collecting the parts to do a swap and every thing else... Grrrr

From the picture, it's a pretty nice looking car.. I'd almost say drive it until it dies while you get your parts in a pile, then BP it and have some fun.

...assuming it's drive-able (and assuming the next guy after me doesn't have a brilliant plan).

Anyway! Welcome to the forums, Mister Rubber.

Welcome to the site. Tough decision. I live about 45 minutes from you in Brighton. If you decide to put another motor in it, maybe I can get away and come up and help you.

It doesn't appear that it hurt the cylinder wall did it? If not, put a WTB for a piston on here. Replace the piston and rings. Drive it until you get the funds for a swap.

Your car does look nice, can you take more pics for us. Good luck with your decision.

It was drive-able and I'm sure it would be again with just putting it back together but I highly doubt that it will pass emissions to get it legal to do so.

It is a pretty clean car I was looking forward to having a fun little commuting car but may have to wait a bit now. I did enjoy the drive home after picking it up. My wife calls it a clown car.

I'll send you a piston for free, if you'll put it to use!! Just PM me an address. Take a good look over the other pistons etc and see if there is anything else you need first.

that car looks clean! Its hard to get money for a non running festiva. Also the guys that come may just want her for the scrap! I would say either partially fix it and sell it (hopefully another member will buy it) or look for a sohc b6 and swap in over a weekend.

So I'm leaning a lot more towards just fixing it for the time being. I already have a complete gasket kit on the way. I'm gonna give it another good look over tomorrow. Here are a few more photos of her. Not bad for having over 200K on her.

The engine bay is quite dirty as well is under the car for now...

Looks like a clean car! Certainly worth fixing up. The dent in the fender looks very similar to my red one...

Now you just need one of these!

The B6 is what the Festiva should have had from the factory - close to the same MPG, just as simple, and yet plenty of power.

I am already enjoying the car... lol... This thing is pretty dang easy to work on. Though the wife is wanting her garage back.
