  • hard to find part: spindle

My drivers side, rear spindle is messed up. Lockwasher, too. These are not easy parts to find. Would anyone know if this is the same off of an Aspire? If so, I can see if that's more available.

True, but the aspires have the castellated nut and the keyed washer which will fit the festiva.

How hard would it be to redrill Festiva so the Aspire axle will fit the Festiva Rear beam? I have never compared these side by side. Is it that far off to where it can't be modded?

I've seen it done, the patterns are not that far off. As I recall, just had the widen the current holes just a little each.
And maybe only in the left right direction or maybe only the up down direction.
The question will inevitably arise as to why not just swap out the rear axle?
It's a lot more expensive! Part acquisition, new wheels, if not new tires, soft line(s).
              And a days work.

A driver-side spindle is easier to come by than the passenger side reverse thread one, because "mechanics" usually screw them up!

Thanks guys. Btw, don't need a door. Not yet. Thankfully. I'm at the pick n pull. There are three festys here. I have my choice of spindles. Now if I could just get them off the frickin car without needing to own air tools....

You are taking the spindle off by removing the nuts on the back side of the backing plate right?
The bolt head s on the front of the backing plate are just heads of serrated stud.
Hit the strut bolt with PB blaster and let it soak, then use an 1/2" impact socket with a breaker bar on it.
Then you can get to the last nut, or you have to have a special tool to reach it without removing the strut bolt.

Well, all I have is a ratchet and socket set, few wrenches, and a hammer. Its not looking good. I may have to come back. And yes, I've tried the back as well but its hard to get leverage with hand tools.

You don't understand, the nuts MUST be removed from the back.
DO NOT try to remove the spindle by trying to turn the hex head on the front side of the backing plate!
The nuts on the back side of the backing plate are not hard to get off, but one is occluded by the strut and either requires a special shaped wrench or removal of the lower strut bolt, which can be difficult!

OK, sounds like you got it under control!
Was afraid you were working on the wrong side of the backing plate!
A small can of PB Blaster can help a great deal!
                          Good luck!

Haha, yeah, I was trying the back. Wasn't easy with a short wrench. I had to use my hammer creatively as a lever to provide needed force.

I appreciate the efforts to make that clear and save me from myself! That's great. I can feel the camaraderie here. I'm starting to understand why Festy owners need each other...
