  • Gauges and Idiot Lights Not Working

I had not started my 95 Festie in a few weeks. This morning I went out and when I turned the key on I noticed that the gas gauge did not go up nor did the idiot lights come on. I turned the key on and off several times but it made no difference. The car started as usual and when the car was warm the temp gauge was also not working (read cold). The signal lights work and the heater fan still works. Can anyone tell me what has gone wrong? Fuse blown, relay not working?

    Thanks.

95 Festie? Check your fuses, starting with your METER fuse.

Good catch, I fat fingered. It is a 93 Festie.

      Meter Fuse? In fuse panel?

Yes. Meter fuse is in the panel to the left of the steering column.

If the fuse is fine, then your ignition switch may be suspect.

Next time the gauges don't work, try smacking your hand, open palmed, on top of the gauge cluster a few times. Don't smack one corner and done, move your smacks around until you find that sweet spot Also, it may require the type of smack that could suggest the appearance of foul play a foot. *Take into consideration the health of your dash and possible sun brittled areas*

My gauges also don't work when it is cold, which is mostly at night... When I bought her 7 months ago, this is how the guy turned the lights on, and I've been giving her the 'Fonz' up till a few weeks ago when they stopped working entirely. Now it's time to pull the gauges, install LEDs and repair the faulty connection(s).
