  • Whats all the oil doing in there...

...here is a photo of my air intake hose...what the heck!! I have cleaned this out before but this time there is quite a bit of oil in there. Strange thing is that the little tube that runs from the valve cover to the intake hose was not oily at all. Either were any of the other tubes that go to the intake hose. Has to be coming from somewhere. Has to be coming from the little tube I mentioned earlier but like I say it was not oily at all??? strange
Is this a classic example of blowby?

Worn rings can be confirmed by a compression test, wet and dry. Procedure in Haynes manual or just look it up on Interent as it's a generic test.
If true maybe a heavier motor oil will compensate. Worn rings will leave carbon in exhaust which catalytic converter may catch but can load converter and reduce lifespan. Before converters it would show up as smoke comming out of exhaust and you could see that an engine was worn and burning oil.

Is it possible that the baffle part of the valve cover is so gummed up that its not letting the pcv do its job correctly? I did pull the pcv out while the car was running and there was air coming out of the pcv hole that seemed normal. Just reaching here. Hoping its something other than rings.

You can check the baffle but you didnt say how much oil your are going through every mile so I'm assuming its a lot? You said it in your first post, its a "Classic Example" of worn rings. It usually gets worse rapidly because you are contaminating your oil every time a cyl fires.Depending on how many miles you drive daily will determine how quickly you'll need to rebuild or replace the engine.I wouldn't waste my time with Sea foam etc, once it gets to this point its usually not a ring that's stuck. But thats up to you to decide, you'll find that it will get so bad that you'll push a 1/2 a qt of oil up @ every 200 miles. You'll also find the car wont idle with the head lights "ON" at a stop light.Pretty much every penny pincher here (like me) has tried to run their engine in this state. And knows all to well its just a matter of time before you cant rely on the car anymore for a long trip.Wish we could give you better news.....

Its not using that much oil at all really. This is the most I have seen in the air intake tube though. It still runs real good (right now). No smoke. Will run it for as long as I can. Just bought this car in December. Oh well.

You wont see smoke at the pipe from a bad compression ring.Oil control rings & valve seals yes. FYI-

Please define this, as in x quarts per 1,000 miles.

                  I have one that uses/leaks 1.5 quarts/1,800 miles.
Working on determining how much of that is leakage, as the last two tanks gave me 45.2 MPG.
