  • 93 Festiva Distributor issue

Thought I'd start a new thread with a new problem

Been working on the GF's 93 festiva trying to get it to pass smog hear in Cali.

Spent yesterday tearing down the front of the engine to inspect crank and cam timing marks and try to decide how the crank pully was marked.

By the way a BIG thank you to Safety Guy who provided Pic's of the timing cover and pully off a spare engine he had, it made all the difference.

So found cam was off by two teeth and reset it correctly, lots of fun.

Still couldn't get Dizzy lined up right and have run out of adjustment slot with timing mark setting at about 20 degrees, no where near the 10 degree factory setting.

All the marks on the pully are now set correctly and match the TDC pin on the timing cover, as do the crank and cam pulleys.

If this was an old Chevy or ford I could pull the dizzy and rotate on tooth on the drive gear and slip it back in to fix my adjustment issue.

    Not so with this turkey!!!

The dizzy driver is a one way only slot with one side "fatter" than the other to make it's a one way only install, what the heck??

Any body run into this issue and if so please post a cure.

Meanwhile I think I can remove the driver by punching out the pin and reversing the driver on the dizzy's shaft, anyone done that?

Looking for an answer hoping I am not the only one wih this problem.

Upside is the car now starts at the first touch of the keyand idles nicely, once I get this problem fixed I can pass smog I'm sure and then I'll deal with the oil leak at the rear main.

thank in advance for any help

    HM

Yeah, agree with Eurotiva this could be your problem, the after market rotors are that sloppy.
The OEM Denso one's only fit on oneway.
You might want to see if removing and rotating the rotor does the job.

I discovered very quickly that the rotor could do the three way thing, sadly only one location seems to get the dizzy anywhere near where I need it.

I appreciate the thought on the rotor but this is a little more complicated than that, LOL!

My real thought is a prevoius owner has done this for some "imigined" improvement and am wondering just how hard this is going to be to change.

Anyone haveing been here I sure would like to hear your answer
