  • Found a way to check crank timing position without taking off the pulley....

Once you reach top dead center and the camshaft marks line up plus the notch in the pulley and pointer line up. You can actually shine a flashlight down onto the gear teeth and see where the notches are without pulling the crank pulley off. All you have to do is hand crank the motor a little past the other marks and if things are all lined up you will see the indented notch on the gear thingy move past the nob (that is at 12:00 and never moves) as you crank.

My camera kinda sucks and I could not get a good clear picture but the red circle on the right is of the indent that is on the gear that lines up with the nob (the red circle on the left).

If you have a manual you will understand this better as the marks for lining up the crank are pictured in there. Just thought this would help someone like me that didn't want to have to mess with taking off the crank pulley to see if the crankshaft was lined up as well as everything else.

I suggested this a while back as a way, not to set timing, but to see if timing previously set was off or had jumped. It will work if you do this carefully but I think people have to see it work to believe it.
When I'm good I'm very, very good and when I'm bad I'm HORRID.
