this will probally be an easy question for some one. what size bolts and nuts do i need to attach muffler? 91 festiva

I'd remove an exsisting bolt and take it to the harware store to compare.
Bolts come in different hardness indicated by a number or pattern on the head.
That way you can match the hardness too if you like.
BTW you can also match threads by holding the old bolt against the new and seeing of the threads interlock.Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021. -

I've done this many times.
Take the old bolt and nut, even broken, and just match-up the bolt thickness and length, then get a matching nut.
Thread size doesn't matter.
You have some flexibility in the length of the bolt, but there is a limit.
Too long and it will hit the muffler itself and cannot be tightened, or you cannot get it to fit between the muffler and flange, depending on how you mount it.
Besides, longer bolts are more expensive.
If you can, get stainless steel nuts, bolts, washers, and lock washers.
They are more expensive, but with liberal use of anti-seize, when next you have to replace the muffler it will not be so difficult.
And you will be changing it again, unless you no longer own the car.
Off the shelf festiva mufflers are made of really cheap metal and will rust through pretty quickly in your environment.'93 Blue 5spd 230K(down for clutch and overall maintanence)

I used 3/8' bolts that are 1 1/4" long.Comment

If you haven't got your old muffler off yet, I would highly recommend making sure you have a MAPP gas torch to help get the bolts nice and hot. Makes a big difference in your chances of getting everything apart!
