  • First Oil Change... on this car.

    So I've been just getting the $20 oil changes for this car because it's my commuter and cheaper than if I bought all the supplies myself. I decided I was going to do my own oil change this time and ran into a snag. I've never seen this type of oil drain plug before.







    First off, there's a black rubber plug that blocked oil from leaking out after this inner ball valve. Second, I used a screw driver to open the ball valve which lets out very little oil. I'm guessing that I'll need another special tool to help the oil drain better. Has anybody else seen something like this? I'm sure this isn't normal for festivas, but I don't have any other one to reference.

    I'd go buy a stock drain plug screw, available at most auto parts stores.

      most of them like that you take and push the nut back and turn it a little and it locks in the open position so the oil will flow out then you close it

        that looks kinda cool. like there is some sort of quick connect oil drain thingy. maybe a tube runs off of it and drains cleanly into a container.

        i used to work at jiffy lube,
        and if the original was messed up or the threads were done for.
        we would use a universal type to fix the problem.
        or rethread and use a bigger size.

        its possible the place you take it to caused or fixed whatever problem was associated with it.
        it possible a stock one might not work in the hole again.

        you inspect it closely. see if removing it is a good idea.
        or if you do remove it check for crossed threads or evidence it has been retapped or something to that extent.

        but i would find the tube/connector for it and see if it is more convenient to use that just removing the plug.

          I did try to unscrew the bolt but it didn't budge... Probably good that I didn't try very hard. I'll try pushing in and turning. Other than that, I guess I'll be looking for a fitting.

            Is that a $55 Stahlbus oil drain valve for doing oil changes without tools?
            I'll pay you the postage to mail it to me after you remove it. It is worthless without the bayonet drain hose. Thanks.

              if he can figure out which one it is that would make oil changes much cleaner.
              and i wouldnt need an oil catch can that splashes oil around.
              thats cool.

              find the tube!
              maybe the previous owner has one or can inform you of where he got it.

                That's pretty darn cool.. wonder if there's another option that isn't $55!

                  Could put it back together and go ask the oil change place. Then buy the connector that goes in it. Looks handy but kind of over complicated.
