  • Hesitation/low power

So the ol' family festy is having issues. It sat for 3 years before it was given to me. We drained the fuel tank and replaced the filters and 02 sensor. The problem is at 1/4 tank it acts like its running on fumes and and any other time it seems hesitant to accelerate like its a cold carbed engine. Its an efi 1.3. I ran a few cans of seafoam cleaner but that hasnt helped. Id like to get some opinions before i drop $100 for a new pump and take the time to put it in.

    Hesitation/low power

Check the distributor make sure the cap and rotor are in good shape.

Fuel pumps usually die. They don't mostly work on mostly not work. I'm saying most cases.

I've had rotor buttons fall of engines that have been sitting awhile.

So that didnt fix the problem. Could it be the pump filter. I was reading somewhere someone was saying there was an access hatch for the pump that you can take off instead of dropping the tank out. Does anyone know if this is true?

What didn't fix the problem? The rotor? .... the fuel pump?

Rotor and cap. Replaced them both. And i tried using search i couldnt find anything so i think the info i was looking for got buried somewhere. Ill try getting to it though might have time to open her up this week.im gonna try and replace the fuel pump filter and see if thats the problem. And re-drain the tank and clean it.

It doesn't hurt to replace an old fuel pump filter. There are lots of Denso filters on the bay, that fit our pumps.

                    No check engine codes?
Maybe CEL bulb is burned out?

                    Check and clean the VAF.
Make sure all grounds are clean and tight.
                    Good luck.

^ What he said. Check to make sure the vane, in the vaf moves freely.

If you suspect a fuel problem you might want to check the bend in the flexible rubber fuel hose at the fuel filtre low down on the driver's side firewall. Sometimes old ones collapse at the bend and restrict fuel flow. I replaced mine with a larger loop of hose to eliminate the bend before it becomes a problem. Others have reported a problem there.

Alright so checked those things. Fuel line is fine. I used a hanes manual to check the air flow sensor harness plug. It said i should have.battery voltage at the power pin and 5.0 volts at the referance. I had 5 volts at each pin. Now as far as i know saying it needs bat voltage meens i should have about 12 v at the pin. Am i mistaken here? Or should i have the ecu tested?
