  • Motor swaps

I've read a lot about motor swaps on the festys but can someone give me the details on different motor Swaps? What has to change, work involved, what's the best one.

86-89 B6 is bolt in 30% hp increase. easiest

BP best bang for buck 100% hp increase. Space factory engine mount back 1", minimal wiring, donor car is a plus. Stock tranny will work but upgrade recommended, same with exhaust. Easy to medium difficulty

B6D 60% hp increase but more difficult due to harness transplant for proper install. Will work with stock tranny. medium difficulty

B6T 125+% hp increase. Tranny upgrade STRONGLY recommended harness transplant, intercooler, exhaust, engine mounts, etc difficulty harder

BPT 200-300% hp increase or more. requires g series tranny and intercooler exhaust etc. similar difficulty as B6T just less room for extras. Wires like a BP but with more hardware necessary to finish

B6 and BP are most popular due to ease of install. But B6T, people say, is the most gratifying though. Several have done the BPT and others have done crazy type stuff like Front engine V6's and others with rear engine v6's and v8's.

I have always wanted to do a twin engine festiva Maybe a twin B6T car someday...

The sky is the limit. It just depends on how much into it you want to go.

I would really just like a simple drop in swap. It's my DD and just a work car so it's not like I'm racing it.

So the BP needs the engine mounts moved? Why is a donor car a plus? Wiring?

The 1st Generation B6 swap will definitely be the quickest and easiest. You won't lose much mpg if it's running properly. 1 day even for a newbie if you have the proper tools and the necessary/recommended parts on hand.
