  • Mating engine to trans

This is by far one of the most difficult things I have done in a long time. I need tips please. My engine is hanging in.the spot its supposed to go in. But. I cannot for the life of me get it to bolt on. I had all four main bolts in once but it started to feel like something was wrong because they all got super hard to turn.

    Help please.

Does your trans and engine snap completely together? The key is to have the clutch centered before mating them. There is a tool in one of the factory kits. However, I have done it without. You have to have the clutch centered quite well. Does the throwout bearing move freely?

Yes, I used a 10? Mm socket to line it up. Yes the throw out bearing moves good.

Are you installing the proper bolts with the correct length, diameter and pitch?
You should inspect the threaded holes and run a tap through them. Try the bolts without the transmission. You do have the backplate on the engine? Correct?

Yep. It's like the teeth on the input shafT are not lining up. I pulled it out assisted adjusted the clutch alittle bit still nothing. I'm taking a break now. I just realized it's 9 pm and I haven't eaten today.

Its the block plate hitting the axle I bet. I trim them so that doesn't happen.

I know it's something on the bottom because the top bolts will go all the way in but the bottom stays out like a quarter inch.

Yeh gotta be that block plate. If it's that close to being mated (1/4") the input shaft splines are already in the clutch disk. Got lucky there thats usually the big fight lol..

This never gives me a problem at all. I always pull engine and leave the transmission.
The KEY here is to not force it you should never have to start your bolts to pull the two together. When there in the right way they will just fall together.
If I'm having a hard time I will pull the engine and re aline the clutch . And give it another try. Also sometimes having someone push on the end of the transmission to point it up ward help.
