  • Check Your Valve Cover Baffle

Going through my new 93 GL and doing some maintenance items. While changing cam and crank seals yesterday, I pulled my valve cover and removed the baffle plate. This is what I found. This condition is very detrimental to your PCV system and just changing the PCV valve will not totally eliminate your engine ventilation problems. If you have never looked at your valve cover baffle, you may want to do so.

Thanks to bravekozak for alerting me to this.

    That is ultra nasty!
Now I don't feel like eating breakfast.
Unusual that it did not get sludged up in the center.
    The standard.

Looks like neglect. I pulled mine and very clean.

Primary cause would be infrequent oil changes.

This car is new to me. I have checked cold compression numbers and was surprised that it had 200 PSI on all four cylinders. Will be checking oil consumption soon. It does have a new PCV valve. Car runs strong and smooth at idle and at acceleration.

Did your car even run with it like that? If it did, what was the problem it was having?

The car ran perfect. I had the valve cover off while changing the cam seal and just inspected the baffle for preventive maintenance.
