  • Rack & pinion

Successfully removed the R&P on the '91 I'm stripping out - much easier without doors, roof, hood, engine, and half the inner fender section/radiator support (sawzalled off & available if anyone needs). By all appearances, this was a fairly low mileage car when it was wrecked (left quarter) and so the rack seems fine - it should only need boots and lube to be ready when needed. But here's the question - how do you lube these things? Or, given that it seems tight, should I even bother?

I first remove the old grease by moving the rack shaft side to side. Then apply new grease the same way. I used wheel barning grease. I also use the expensive NAPA boots. First time I used cheap boots and they only lasted a year

Also when you put it back on. And after you get it a wheel alignment. The steering wheel will be off. Its easier to pull the steering wheel to center than at the rag joint.
