From the limited view of the picture, I cannot tell that you are missing anything. Your hand is in the area of the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC). It should have 2 coolant hoses and 2 air hoses plus an electrical connector (blue) near the firewall. It supplies idle air based on engine temp and condition.
