  • Short Shifter Bushing Question

Hey there everyone. I need to re-do my shifter bushings on the bottom of the shift lever itself because I have a ton of slop and the feel is gone. Though I have NOS Ford bushings on the other parts, the Honda Civic short shifter is a slightly different size. I recall the Ebay-sourcced short shifter being slightly narrower than the Festiva bracket itself, and possibly using some combination of rubber/steel/nylon washers to compensate for the slack and slop.

In addition, the bolt head is an allen key rather than a hex head, so replacing that might be worthwhile too if and when it needs re-torquing or removal. Does anybody happen to know off hand what size fasteners I should go hunting for tomorrow?

I was thinking that I could just use sturdy nylon washers stacked up and torqued down, with a standard locknut and high tensile strength bolt. Just haven't had a chance to get under the car and take a look yet and was hoping someone could save me some time tomorrow morning. Thanks for any and all help!

Take a piece of nylon rod, along with the short shifter, to someone with a lathe and have them turn a couple sets of bushings for you.
