  • Axle nut Q

I am putting in new axles (Festy) and the new axles have different axle nuts, rather than the usual nuts. The new ones have a larger shoulder and are longer.
Has anyone seen these type axle nuts?
The pic below shows the original style nut on the left, and the NEW style axle nut on the right.
With the new nut being longer, when used WITH the axle washer, the stake part of the nut is not reaching the threads, and cant be staked into the staking groove.

Is the NEW axle nut supposed to be used WITHOUT the axle washer????

The new axle nut is about the thickness of the washer, longer.

Correct the flanged axle nut does not need the washer.
Any flanged nut or bolt does not require a washer, since it is integral.
That is the reason I always purchase and install flanged fasteners. One less thing to fall to the ground and roll somewhere where I can't find it.

Yup I've seen both styles as well and prefer the flange nut style as well

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

First time I encountered the flanged axle nuts! I figured it would be good without the washer, but it never hurts to ask, and make sure!

          Thanks guys!
