  • NEWB Question - PARKING BRAKE CABLE

Sorry if this has been asked before, I did try searching but could not come up with anything addressing my question.

I need to replace the parking brake cable for my 1991 Ford Festiva. I have done a search for a replacement part, but it looks like no one has a specific replacement part. Has anyone replaced their parking brake cable, and if you have, can you tell me what you used?

Is it completely rusted or did it just snap somewhere? The reason I ask is I have had a few snap on me and I have just repaired the snapped section with cable and clamps from Home Depot. Grease the heck out of all the major contact points and I have never had another issue.

      SiliconSoul,

      Thanks for your reply.

The parking brake is completely gone. My understanding from the person we bought it from is that it did snap and they, or their mechanic removed it. I did find a kit on Ebay that is supposed to fit, but I am reluctant to fork over the cash without some kind of real confirmation that it does work.

I got the impression that it is a common issue with the Festiva, so I was hoping someone else had a suggestion for replacement.

Put up a WTB in the For Sale / Wanted Forum.

Someone usually has one they will part with.

Or find a JY and get everything you are missing.

I saw this on craigslist just yesterday: http://stlouis.craigslist.org/pts/4627800422.html

But yeah.. used or fourgreen are really your only two options.

i was able to find one that was in good shape from an auto wrecker but it is sort of a gamble with the wreckers most of them do not carry festivas
