  • Temp Gauge Replacement

    I'm absolutely sure someone knows the answer to my question, so here goes: My (cars) temperature gauge mostly reads below the lowest normal reading so I decided to install an aftermarket gauge. Then read where the computer reads the temperature to adjust the mixture, etc. So if I bypass the electrical sensor with a mechanical probe, will that mess with my computer deciding when to lean or rich the mixture? Also, same with adding an oil pressure gauge?

    The sensor for the temp gauge is different from the temp sensor for the computer, so there should be no problem.

        I want to do the same thing, I hate silly gauges that serve no practical measuring purpose. I mean I'm looking at them for information, and I'm not getting any.

          HTC, by the time the light goes on, it might be too late. That's why I like mechanical instruments.

            I put an electrical coolant temp gauge in my car. I used electrical because I couldn't find a mechanical one with a bulb on the end small enough to fit in the stock location seen here


            I used this gauge to be exact. I got the CF one to match the oil pressure gauge I got from a friend for a song. http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugede...gid=2521&sid=3

                Haha. I will say that the cowl grill is super useful for holding screw drivers and bolts.

                  I watch my gauges like a hawk, I want to never see a warning light. And the 1/8 inch of needle movement I get doesn't translate to the hand-to-radiator-hose measurement I took last weekend, I'd like to see a finer reading gauge with actual numbers.

                  I do hate the idea of my stock temp gauge in cluster resting dead due it's sending location being stolen for something better. I don't suppose an 1/8" Tee in that location would allow enough coolant movement around the sensors to let the factory and aftermarket gauges work properly... I might have to find another location to add an 1/8" port.

                    Temp Gauge Replacement

                    Eurotiva has a temp sensor inline on the upper hose basically cut the hose in half and put in your sensor and run your own gauge. They make a nice coupler to hold the sensor so you can hook the hoses back up to it. Doesn't affect the stock gauge.

                      I'm not sure if my stock temp gauge is right or not. When sitting in traffic its up in the middle. When I'm moving with air flowing through the front, it stays down a little past the first notch of the normal area (which seems low to me).
