  • Replace axel seals?

I have new axles to put in the Festy. My Q is about the seals in the mtx now.
I put a 5 speed in the 1988 Festy, about 5 years ago, which I also put in NEW seals at that time.

So, my question is ...Would the 5 year old seals still be ok to use?

I am thinking ... yes ...they don't leak and I should get another 5 yrs out of them, if I reuse them. Has anyone done this?

My Trans had Original seals until last winter, it did leak during the winter but small amounts. 2 sets of axles be four they leaked 300,000 miles . You should be ok.

Got both axles in, went with the 5 year old seals ...... we'll see how it holds up!

Now if I could get that last dang ball joint, to go in the freakin' hole in the knuckle!!!!! Don't know why, but my 88 has always had an issue with the ball joint not wanting to be straight enough to go in the hole!

Did the LCA's on the 92 last week and .... no problem, went right in, but the 88 always makes me invent new cuss words trying to get that ball joint in the knuckle hole!

I had to remove the control arm to frame bolt, so I could move the control arm around, and the ball joint went right in, tightened the pinch bolt, and then put the control arm back on the frame.
I tried the GenevaDirt "one bolt method", which works for my 92, but not with the 88. Weird.... So I will use the "2 bolt method" for my 88!

This is the GenevaDirt "One bolt method"
