  • Blew a fuse

I left my headlights on yesterday which drained my battery by the time I got off work. Had a co-worker take me home, and we arrived this morning with jumper cables.

In a moment of supreme stupidity I crossed the connections to my battery, causing what looks like a safety fuse to light on fire.

Can somebody tell me what this fuse is called? I wasn't able to find the name of it to buy a replacement.

IIRC there are short legged ones, and long legged ones. You want the long legged ones.

I went to the auto parts store and bought a universal fusible link, cut it and put a connector on it and then plugged it into where the blown one was and the car works so.... I don't think I'm going to mess with it more.

I prefer the fusible link wire but the PAL fuses look cool.

It was the end of the day for me at work when this happened. I just wanted to get a replacement part and go home. Since it's been working, I haven't felt the need to make another change, but I'll check out your recommendation

What size wire did you use and how long did you make it?
When I'm good I'm very, very good and when I'm bad I'm HORRID.

I used a 14 gauge wire and made it about 3 inches long from end to end. The connectors I used were a little small for the fuse tabs, so I used my car key to widen them and shoved them on there good and tight and haven't had a problem since!
