  • Loose Wiper Spindle, Stuck Wiper Arm

Yesterday I removed my wiper arms to paint over the rustyness. When removing the driver's side arm the spindle came loose. In putting the wiper arm back on I got it stuck somehow. So now I have a stuck wiper an a crooked spindle on a rainy day. Any advice for removing the wiper arm and tightening the spindle? Thanks.

I replaced my old one with a new wiper assembly and sold my old one to offset the cost. No more problems for another twenty years. There is a part number somewhere if you do a search.

Also I bought one of my car in Lexington, KY.
My old company still has a facility there.

        Worst case wiper scenarios:

Threads are stripped because of failure to wire wheel aluminum oxide buildup and lubricate threads, before removing retaining nuts. Remember the nut is brass and the thread is soft aluminum. This is where anti-seize is definitely needed. Together, both metals smear.

White plastic grease cups crack from wear and do not retain grease anymore. Major problem since they are sonic welded together from opposite sides.

As far as I can tell, if you can't get another one in reasonable shape, you would have to buy a new one.

UPDATE: after hitting the spindle with PB blast and some clever prying and pulling I got the wiper arm off and I was able to tighten the locknut on the spindle. I replaced the wiper with ease just in time for the next rainy days. All is well. Thanks for the help!
