Was sitting in the driveway with it idling and it just stopped running right there. Went to start it back up and it cranked, but no start. Could the fuel pump have given out on me right there? Would my distributor have died right there?

Could a fuse have blown? Could a wire have disconnected? Could the fuel line have got blocked? There are a few possibilites. You'll have to check things until you find out what's up, or down. One way to go about it is when in doubt start with the easy stuff first. Bonne chance.Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.

thanks Eaglefreek, but it looks like it had a new timing belt put on. Easy to check because the previous owner lost the timing belt cover. I recently got this car about a week ago and was working on insuring it so I was just starting it up and driving it up and down the driveway until then.
Ok I got my handy multi-meter out and found I wan't getting power to the fuel pump. I checked the fuses by the steering wheel and they look good. Is there any fuses anywhere else? This poor festiva is on its last leg. The frame is almost rusted though. I feel bad for it. I have a strong feeling after me being its owner it will have no place to go but the scrapyard. It has so many electrical problems. I also am planning on checking the relay under the dash a bit later on.
This was basically supposed to be a little taste of the festiva world before I ship out for the airforce I planned to buy a better one afterwards and hopefully not have as many problems and then think about performance and fun.
One thing is for sure it aint getting fuel. #1 suspect: wiring! Seems like all the stock wiring is going on this thing. Would explain the toggle switches for the radiator fan and headlamps.Last edited by Meepersly; 11-15-2014, 01:30 AM.88 Ford Festiva LX "Miogi" B8-ME swapped.

Could it be the pressure regulator? It would probably at least prime the fuel system though at least right then I would have enough pressure to get the engine to at least sputter.88 Ford Festiva LX "Miogi" B8-ME swapped.

Check the EGI fusible link near the drivers side shock tower. It supplies power to the fuel injection system. Also, make sure the door in your VAF meter (at end of air intake tube) moves freely. The VAF has an integrated fuel pump switch that must close in order for the fuel pump to run. If you have a Haynes manual, there is a fuel pump test you can run by simply jumping out the 2 pin connector near the brake master cylinder.Last edited by dalebwilson; 11-15-2014, 07:33 AM."Fred" 93 Festiva L B6-ME Swap

It's not the wiring that's going. It's corrosion of the brass terminals.
You can dip the connectors into a weak acid solution and then a mild base to stop the reaction.
Or, buy a terminal extractor tool and some new open barrel terminals from easternbeaver.com
If you have a small wire wheel Dremel, you can polish the spades. The new terminals are for the ones that broke off or you don't feel like acid dipping. New terminals are also necessary for any new wiring.Last edited by bravekozak; 11-15-2014, 10:57 AM.

ok will try all of this. What I mean by stock wiring going is that the previous owner cut off the headlamp wires from the wiring harness and looks like the original radiator fan died and they just threw one in and ran a switch to it. Kind of looks like stupid mess and the previous owner didn't feel like going the extra mile to fix the small problems. I flip the stock headlamp light switch on and the battery like comes on. My guess is there is a short somewhere. It has to be on the on position or else the light are shorted even in the off position. this little festiva is going to be quite an adventure. I am thinking of throwing a donor wiring harness in if it is cheap enough it would seem easier than testing every wire. I at least want to be able to drive it for now. Will report back on results.
Also bravekozak are you talking about the terminals on the fuel pump or the battery terminals because the battery terminals are fine.... ish I plan to replace those too.88 Ford Festiva LX "Miogi" B8-ME swapped.

I think dalebwilson may be on to something1115141417.jpg
I think I will either find a replacement one or put a little fuse panel there.88 Ford Festiva LX "Miogi" B8-ME swapped.

Well got it working replaced 2 of the fusable links with fuses started up and ran like it did before, so happy! Now there is just the headlamps and the sound system to sort out so I can finally get it on the road.1115141619.jpgLast edited by Meepersly; 11-15-2014, 04:23 PM.88 Ford Festiva LX "Miogi" B8-ME swapped.

It's a real pleasure having every circuit working exactly like it is supposed to. No bandaids or bypasses. I popped the terminals out of all the engine compartment connectors, wire wheeled them and clicked them back into place again. The real corroded ones were the turn signal, parking light and the starter motor connectors. For some reason, Kia did not use waterproof connectors for them.'93 Blue 5spd 230K(down for clutch and overall maintanence)
