  • Horn Location

I bought my Festiva with an inoperative horn. Today, while installing new headlamp assemblies, I found the power wire that should connect to the horn, a red and green wire that has power when either horn button is pressed, just hanging, connected to nothing, behind and below the drivers side headlamp. No horn was to be found in the general vicinity. Further complicating matters, my wiring schematic shows the horn located on the passenger side, well outside of the reach of the main power wire.

After fighting a slightly bent core support putting the new drivers side headlamp in, it became clear my car was in an accident at some point in its life. I suspect that whoever did the collision repair reassembled the car without the horn. Still, I'd like to know the proper location so I can see if a horn is actually there. Does anyone know where the horn normally lives on a '93 Festiva? Thanks in advance guys.

not sure on the 94 but our horn is on the left side... we're putting in a new louder toned one soon... should be behind the bumper down low, pretty easy fix though.

My L Festiva has the horn on the right side behind the bumper under the headlight. I don't have my manual handy but I'm thinking the horn wire has green in it. I believe that I read on here that some Festiva's had 2 horns but I can't say for sure as all my L's have only one.

          Horn Location

L models have a single horn, LX's have dual horns (one on each side of the rad support)

Mine is a 90 LX and it has two

OK, for clarity's sake let's start with this.

When referring to which side of the vehicle a certain part is on using the 'left or right' terminology, keep in mind it is customary in the automotive world that either the left or right is distinguished from sitting in the vehicle facing forward.

With that said, base model Festivas have 1 horn located on the right side, mounted low behind the front bumper, visible from under the vehicle.

'Higher end' models were equipped with 2 horns. One mounted on on each side (left and right), down low, behind the front bumper.

I believe the 2 horns on the "high end" models ended when the LX designation ended(90 model). The GL 92 doesn't have 2 but I'm pretty sure the wiring is there If you want to add one.

Could be. That was a scan from my 1990 FSM. My '93 L has the extra wire on the left with the horn mounted on the right.

Some people move the horn up into the engine compartment to protect it from rusting out from road spray.

Thanks everybody. I'm guessing the connector I found on the driver side is a vestigial part of the harness that remained after the second horn from the LX era was eliminated. I'll have a closer look under the passenger side tomorrow.

Yep, wire on both sides, horn only on one side unless lx. They get pretty cruddy in the location from the factory might just need a cleaning

How is the horn -easily- removed? Remove the grill or bumper?
I found it but can't get to it, and I'm definitely relocating it
