  • Failed annual tech inspection!!

After taking care of the carb, fixing the muffler, new cat, new paint (all over!!! i have another thread that i need to update with a bunch of pics), oil change, filters, ect ect ect. The GD!! car failed brakes!! Passed emissions with a toyota carb though!
The rear driver wheel don't brake at all!!! the hand brake does work but the pedal doesn't. the car doesn't pull, drag or anything. the pedal feels nice and tight!!
I'm sooooo pissed that i wont touch it today, otherwise i might end up throwing it off a cliff.
Any ideas where should i start?

Have you done rear brakes at all on it? If you haven't then the issue is probably a wheel cylinder. You might as well changes the shoes and springs if you think they look like they need replacing.

bleed and see if you get fluid there. parking is mechanical so it will work still

i just blew out a rear line today on my workmobile. guess what i'll be doing on xmas. a double flaring tool was one of my better investments.

The sad part is that i have all the spare parts on hand: new spindle nuts, springs kit, new shoes and wheel cylinders; even a new MC and rear flex hoses. Hate my self for not doing the job before!! I did the front like 4 months ago but didn't do the rear... arrrrrgggg Funny thing is that the car stops nice and even. No leaks or anything...

+1 jayber. I have seen where people crimp off a break line say if they have a failing wheel cylinder or a leak. I think they also have a proportioning valve for the rear braeks.

but if it were the proportioning valve, both my rear wheels will not brake, wouldn't it?

Ok, I have overcome my anger and took the wheel off. Bottom line it's a seized wheel cylinder..... Checked my records and seems that i had changed everything on the rear last year, new drums, shoes, springs, bearings, etc.. but i didn't find any bill for wheel cylinders... seems that i only changed the seals... damn me!!!

This is why living in the tropics sucks if you have drum brakes....

                        Brave,

I think that second link is actually the old 'Fiesta" cylinders judging by the part number.

The proportioning valve will shut down one front and opposite side rear if either fails, leaving one front and opposite side rear working. Probably why you didn't notice. We are supposed to check our brakes regularly, find any problem, and fix it so all four are working again. Car manufacturers expect a lot from owners but I guess it's the best they can do.

Oright, I ended up changing hoses, wheel cylinders, shoes, spring kit, the MC(stock Festy) and adjusted & lub everything with anti-seize. Now it's stops!! I mean stops like hell, for stock brakes i mean. hehehe. Even though I change the brake fluid every year, we had a lot of rain this year and the old fluid was a little orange...
One wheel cylinder was totally seized and the other only one piston was moving...
