  • Engine Swap

I recently purchased an 89 Festiva without an engine. The car already has a 5 speed so I am going to pull the engine out of an 88 4 speed that I have as a parts car and put it into the 89. I noticed that the 89 does NOT have any of the vacuum solenoids mounted on the firewall as the 88 does.

Question #1 - Is it possible that an 89 was EFI and not carb?

Questions #2 - Assuming the 89 was a carby with a 5 speed (not sure how to tell), will the computer module and wire harness be the same on the 89 as it was on the 88?

    Thanks.

If the 89 was a manual from the factory, it would be carbed. Someone may have taken the solenoids off the firewall. The computer and wiring harness would be the same on 88 and 89.

If the 89 was an auto from the factory, it would be EFI. Computer and wiring harness would be different from a carbed 88.

Install an Escort carb and you will not need a computer or solenoids.
