  • My 'New' 1991 Festiva Needs Engine - Can I Use a Carb. Engine?

I have a 1991 with a 5-speed manual transmission that had oil problems and then locked up. (That's not repairable right?)

I own an older 88 or 89 (can't remember which year at the moment) and it's a carbureted model with a 4-speed manual transmission. Would it hurt to put the 88/89 motor into the 1991? What's the advantages and disadvantages of doing that?

    Here's the 91: http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/...psf89e0768.jpg

It will work fine but your rocker arms will be manually adjustable. Some people like them. I did not. You can swap the '91 rockers on to the older engine though.

Will there be any major wiring issues? What about the computer part of it?

Putting a 1989 carbureted engine into a 1991 fuel injected one seems like a lot of extra work. There's a lot of differences when you look at the intake part of it and all the hoses that are going to the fire wall.

I think I'll stick with putting a similar engine into it.

Just use the intake off your current engine. No wiring issues then.

The lifters on your seized engine may be a problem with bits of bearing material. I would go with the adjustable ones.
