I had my first aspire engine oil pan spring a leak through the metal. It rusted and had a pin sized hole in it

I hear ya. I never had luck sealing oil pans until I did them without
a gasket. I just used RTV (Mitsubish tri-bond I think it was called)
on my wifes Subaru and it hasn't leaked a bit Either way, I dont
plan to do this unless it needs it.

bhearts: Dude...thats nuts. Never heard of that before.

A dry Subaru engine for the duration of an oil change is an accomplishment !

No kidding. Her freakin oil cooler is leaking though The valve cover gaskets leak the most
though. I went through and did all of the seals on my old Legacy and it went years without
an oil leak though. I was pretty proud haha

Subarus don't leak, they mark their territory.

The engine in my car now came from a craigslist ad, the guy was dragging it around his storage shed on the oil pan. It was rusted and thin in one spot so of course it sprung a leak.
I drained the oil, sprayed some brake cleaner on it and cleaned off all the oil and rust. Then I mixed some quick steel epoxy putty to seal it up. Haven't thought of it again until today so it must be fine under there!
