UPDATE:Engine shutting off, Ck eng lt code 17 ,erratic idle

    Well I am not going to hold my breath for a few days , Just got back from a drive , put it to the test and it did not act up at all , I drove it normal, that is when it acted up the most ..


    I adjusted the TPS ???

    I cleaned it the other day and it made no difference .
    I unplugged it and it still did it yesterday ??
    The only thing I did tell before today was the decel thing ,it worked better , it did not feel like you were tapping on the gas pedal while decelerating .
    Which I know that the TPS sends a signal to the ECM and regulates fuel to the injectors , and if it is out of adjustment it will send burst of fuel and make idle erratic .and not send the proper fuel delivery .
    My pump still runs key on - engine off , but not everytime though ??

    This car has consumed 5 days and my entire weekend :x
    I don't know if I should shun it or give it a treat ,maybe a bath after the engine compartment has been drenched in gasoline ?????

        I really think I may have had more than 1 problem , with the code 17 = O2 and the fuel pump running when it should not ,the shutting off feeling at speed, and the unstable engine speed at 1,500-2,100 rpm's .
        Fingers crossed . :lol:

          So far so good !!!!!!!!
          Drove it all over yesterday and to work and back today , not one glitch
          I still can't believe that the lower spring rod inside that TPS switch was causing all my problem .
          Well at least I have a fresh fuel pump and a bunch of clean connectors :lol:

              I just adjusted it till it came out of it , I only moved it a hair , must have got out of spec from wear , I know it prolly need's checked right .
              I know the timing and idle speed need to be right , Then you unplug the TPS harness and use a ohm meter to plug into the terminals on the actual TPS .
              it show's a early and a late model plug.
              Late shows the ref on top sig in the middle and gnd on the bottom
              Early shows the same ,just a different style plug .
              Install a feeler gauge in between the throttle lever and the adjustment screw near the dashpot .
              0.02inch (0.5mm) with the ohm meter in the gnd /sig terminal it should show continuity with the ohm meter in the ref/sig term it should show no continuity
              with a 0.027 inch (0.7mm) feeler in there gnd /sig -no cont ..ref/sig no cont.
              wide open throttle gnd /sig no cont. .. ref/sig shows cont.

              Loosen the TPS adj screws and move it into the correct range with the feeler gauges and tighten it down.

                So far so good , I have drove it for a week now ,and I just got back from a 100 + mile trip this evening , No check engine light and no buck jerk /shutoff stuff ,and I did have the Festiva's most unfavorite passenger with me :lol: :lol:

                  I just drove another 100 miles this morning to go see a Festiva ,still no problems .
                  She still has it in her ....................50.5 MPG !!!!
                  I thought I lost some mileage ,NO I did not

                    I hope I get 50mpg on the way to Minnesota/Wisconsin tomorrow. I would think that I should....right :wink: I'm going right through Illnois on my way to cheese head land. We are going to be driving right past you on 57 & 74

                        Nope!!! :evil: Well, I'll make it there though. We are leaving in a couple hours. I've got a whole toolbox of extra parts just in case, as well as my tool box. If we were going that way I would stop in, but I believe we would be there around 6-8 am so it would be a bit early anyway hehehe. Wish me luck!!
