I have never used a factor Festiva radio and have a question about how they work.

The radio is installed and works fine, when the key is turned off and removed the built in clock stays on. Is this the way it is supposed to work?

    Thanks.

Is the on/off button set to "off"?

The radio should shut off. No time should be showing. There should only be a tiny draw of power for the channel memory and clock, not the radio display LEDs. Your ignition switch may be to blame. Does your cigar lighter still work too? Simple test to see if there still is power in the blue/yellow radio power wire with the key in the off position.

I must have done something wrong then putting mine in. It works fine beside the clock not shutting off no matter what. And at night you can't see the time displayed. It doesn't light up. But the rest of it does

As you can see in the pic.

There is one of those small bulbs(74 I think, same as the smallest ones in the tach clusters) behind the display that is replaceable. I had to do it in my daughter's car.
        "Blue92"- 92L 5 spd, original owner- 185K, B8,DD..
        "Pedro"-88L 5-spd, B6D (built by Advancedynamix)
        "Blanca"-92 GL auto, 125K(FM8 Lowest Miles)- B6 daughter's DD
        "Tractor Blue"- 89 L auto, 110K
"Chester"-88 LX, runs but not street legal
        "Wenona"-89L parts car
"Flame"- 89 LX 5 spd ,parts car

Is the clock supposed to stay on all the time?

I noticed my radio clock and tuning numbers are no longer showing up in Trixie.
I have some of the small instrument lights.. How hard is it to replace that light in the radio?

I believe the digital numbers are on a ribbon band and do not have illumination lamp bulbs in behind. You probably need to replace the led assembly along with the ribbon.
Phelps, the clock is only supposed to come on when the ignition switch us turned to "accessory" or "run".

Does your cigar lighter work with the key out of the ignition?
It is on the same circuit.

The cigarette lighter does not work when the key is out of ignition. Only works when key is in ignition.

Too bad. That means you have to pull the radio out to find out what's going on. Specifically the connector with the blue/yellow stripe wire. Check to see if power goes off in that wire when the key is off. If not, trace it back to find out why.

                      Unecessary info:
It's the clear plastic connector at the bottom with two wires in it.
The third terminal which is missing, would have been for a powered antenna.
The extra spade on the radio becomes hot when the key is turned on and the blue/yellow wire becomes hot.
The release tabs on that radio connector faces inward and cannot be pushed in with your big fingers unless all of the other connectors are removed first. They can be a pain to pull off. That is why I would suggest a screwdriver to push the tab down on the bottom connector and not bother taking the remaining three off. Also remember that there is no release tab on the brown connector. You must push the radio release tab in the opposite direction to let it go.
