I agree with brave....you have to have the number one piston at top dead center and point the rotor towards the number one wire on the cap, then it should fire right up and run fairly smooth. Youtube that stuff......
Did you connect the 2 vacuum hoses back to the distributor advance? The top chamber connects to manifold vacuum, lower chamber to a port on the carburetor. The drive tang on the distributor is offset & fits in one position, indexing the rotor in the distr body. Only seat the distr body against the head by hand. Do not force it in with the bolts, risking damage.
