  • If you are getting oil in the air intake tube (blowby)...

...shouldn't the spark plugs show signs of this? I just changed mine today and my old plugs look great. It has almost been a year to this date since I changed them out. Last Feb. 8th I put em in and today when I changed them they look great. Seems like with bad rings it would show on the plugs or am I all wet? Thanks, Jim

Oil has a lot harder time making its way into the cylinder through the pcv and then intake piping and manifold than it does through the valve stem seals. When a car is smoking, that's the first thing I look at. It takes a lot of oil burning to leave much in the way of deposits on the plugs, but not very much to make a lot of smoke.

Thanks Zeph. The car does not smoke at all, YET. It is using oil. I'm 90% sure its bad rings because of the blow by. Just thought it would show on the plugs. Thanks for the info. I noticed that my crankshaft pulley has wobble to it while idling, is that normal?

No pulley should wobble. Better make sure the bolts are tight. Replace it if bent, that's wearing to the belt and water pump bearing over time.
When I'm good I'm very, very good and when I'm bad I'm HORRID.
