Hi all! I promised to give a report when I finally came round to take care of this. Now it's done and here it is:
As I mentioned previously, I did a few things myself before I reluctantly realized the car needs to be assessed by a pro. My own doings included:
Replaced spark plugs (old ones looked great though)
Measured resistance in all ignition leads, all good
Made sure automatic choke open/close properly, and it did
Checked ignition curve (2 degrees ahead of 0 seemed to do best)
Change all rubber fuel hoses
Replaced the fuel filter with an OG replacement unit
Replaced distributor cap and arm
Added about 300ml of "Really Expensive Fuel System Cleaner Agent" and drove about 25 miles
None of above mentioned measures did the trick. So my mechanic went at it doing the following:
Thoroughly adjusted carb
Adjusted ignition
Now the car runs like a champ again. His theory is that it was indeed the carb that needed a good cleaning/adjustment. Another theory was simply bad fuel, as the previous owner rarely drove the car and the tank might have been holding pretty much the same old gas for a very long time. Anyhoo, now it's all good again. Thanks so much for all your input - a lot of very knowledgeable and kind people hanging out at this forum, much appreciated. Cheers from Sweden!
