When my fest sits overnight, it won't start the first few times I try. It just does nothing, the motor doesn't turn over at all. After I try it 3, 4, or 10 times, it will eventually turn over and start right up. Once it starts and runs a little, it will start right up no problem. Let it sit awhile and you have to put the key over to the start position several times again. Anyone have an idea of what this could be?

Starter issues? If its a 5 speed can it be drift started? My focus had this problem. The starter wasn't getting any power from the battery to turn the engine over. Ended up being a simple frayed wire.

I had a fairly new battery causing this. It had one bad cell that would pull battery voltage down to 10 volts or so after sitting a while. There was plenty of power left to crank the motor but not enough volts after sitting a while to energize the starter solenoid. New battery fixed it. Test first though batteries are expensive !!

I've had similar symptoms from different causes. 1) a battery not holding full charge but it would eventually run the starter - slower than normal. For a while after getting charging it would run the starter faster. 2) corrosion between the battery terminal and cable that did not show externally, and not very much. 3) nut on the solenoid holding the battery cable being slightly loose along with slight corrosion. 4) IIRC, piston in the solenoid sticking from gunky buildup where oil had gotten in - this one near heat. 5) poor connection at the solenoid terminal.
When I'm good I'm very, very good and when I'm bad I'm HORRID.
